Beans 2 Brew (B2B) is a non-profit student run coffee shop that was founded in 2014 by the college's Association of Student Entrepreneurs (ASE), and located on the second floor of Peacock Hall.
The organization aims to provide students with applicable business experience in relevant areas of study through the different departments of the organization and raise funds for affiliated clubs. Throughout each semester students have the opportunity to join these different departments that include Finance & Accounting, Marketing, Supply Chain, Operations, Human Resources, Research & Analytics, and catering. Students who work under any of these functional areas are referred to as Business Team Members. Student volunteers and business team members work hourly-shifts with their affiliated club receiving $7.25 for every hour they work.
While being an organization that provides translatable experience and skills, B2B values sustainability and has become one of the most sustainable coffee shops on Appalachian State's campus. B2B practices conscious consumerism that promotes the livelihood of local businesses and protects the environment. All our coffee and pastries are sourced from Stick Boy Bakery and Hatchet Coffee, both local businesses of Boone. Additionally, all cups, lids, cutlery, coffee, and pastries at the shop are compostable.
By embracing change and striving for continuous improvement, B2B gives self-motivated students a unique opportunity for professional growth and skill development. Furthermore, B2B highlights the importance of sustainability within an organization through its conscious consumerism.
Current IOHRM students hold positions at B2B, Leah Uteg (HRBP), Claire Parson (HRBP), Gabriella Gayoso (Training and Development Coordinator) and Lane Perkinson (HR Director). If you are curious to learn more about B2B and the opportunities available, reach out to Lane.
