The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) recently held its 33rdannual conference in Chicago, Illinois, and Appalachian State University's IOHRM program made a big impact this year with many faculty members and current students attending and presenting at the conference.

With regard to pre-conference events, students Cody Rusher and Cheryl Nickel were selected to attend the SIOP Master's Consortium, a developmental program for master's students in I-O. In addition, Dr. Shawn Bergman and students Lorin Farr, Hannah Booth, and Cheryl Nickel conducted a pre-conference workshop on, How to Use Advanced Technologies for Employee Selection (and Feel Good About It!).

In terms of presentations by IOHRM affiliates, student Cameron Brown presented research that he conducted with Drs. Shawn Bergman and Tim Huelsman on, Using Natural Language Processing to Measure Psychological Constructs. Dr. Yalcin Acikgoz presented research conducted along with Dr. Huelsman and students Amanda Dixon, Amanda Ross, Jessica Swets, and Stephanie Jeffer, on Where Do We Stand? Alternative Methods of Ranking I-O Graduate Programs. Drs. Acikgoz and Shawn Bergman and students Hannah Booth and Nkem Obi-Melekwe presented their research, Reactions to Social Media Screening: A Different Story for Minority Applicants. And, Drs. Acikgoz and Shawn Bergman also presented research conducted with incoming IOHRM student Jessica Harris on, Social Media Persona and Hireability: Gender, Marital Status, and Sexual Orientation. In addition, Dr. Shawn Bergman was part of both a master tutorial and panel discussion on social media use in employment decisions, alongside Dr. Kristl Davison, our newest IOHRM faculty member joining us next year.
