The IOHRM community came together with a powerful display of support and raised over $6,000 in relief funds in response to the recent hurricane that gravely affected the mountains of North Carolina. We’d like to highlight the generosity of our alumni and sponsors who provided support for our network in this time of need.
A portion of the alumni donations and funds from the canceled HR Summit was redirected towards hurricane relief for students in need. In addition, we reached out to summit sponsors, asking them to repurpose their contributions towards hurricane relief as well. Many sponsors were eager to help, showing their commitment to the well-being of our community. This collaborative approach helped expand the reach of our fundraising efforts, allowing us to make a positive impact in this time of hardship.
In the weeks following the hurricane, our students, faculty, and alumni in the area kept in consistent contact to ensure each other’s safety. By Sunday, two days after the hurricane, all graduate students were accounted for. Three undergraduate students affiliated with the program were provided additional resources to assist them in the aftermath.
On October 16th, 2024, Appalachian State University officially reopened and our students were able to return to their classes and regular activities. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this effort. Together, we continue to prove that the IOHRM community is capable of achieving great things, even in the face of adversity.
