The 10th annual Appalachian Safety Summit took place on Tuesday, September 3rd, and Wednesday, September 4th, in the Grandfather Ballroom, offering a remarkable view of Kidd Brewer Stadium as industry professionals presented their expertise and research concerning innovative behavioral safety strategies. This year’s event was not only a spectacular assembly of diverse experts but also a celebration of the summit's longevity as it hits its 10-year milestone! The safety summit continued its tradition of fostering education, collaboration, and creative development in occupational safety. Attendees represented a diverse array of industries, coming together to share insights on the current state of safety practices and to explore future advancements in the field.
This year’s line-up of speakers was impressive as always, featuring professionals from all over the world, speaking on a variety of safety topics. The Behavior-Based Systems (BBS) process emphasized the importance of employee behavior in ensuring workplace safety and efficiency. Sessions on emotional intelligence explored how self-awareness and interpersonal skills contribute to professional success. Additionally, the featured talk on effective leadership, offered insights into how modern leaders can inspire, influence, and drive positive change in their organizations.
As the Appalachian Safety Summit marks its 10th anniversary, we reached out to Dr. Ludwig, the event’s founder and key organizer, to reflect on a decade of progress. When asked how it felt being able to have this 10th annual experience, Dr. Ludwig said: "Well, we pulled it off for ten years! It’s a lot of dang work and people keep coming. It added value to them and it was worth the effort. I think the thing that gave me the most pause was when I sat down and calculated the donation of the Safety Summit to the IOHRM Program…Finally, we developed something that’s going to last."
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Timothy Ludwig for the tremendous success of this year’s annual Safety Summit. We are also profoundly grateful to every individual and organization that contributed their efforts and resources to bring this exceptional event to life. Your dedication and collaboration were crucial in making this year's summit a valuable and memorable experience for all involved. Thank you for your commitment to advancing safety and for helping to create such a meaningful and impactful event!
