Advisory Board Meeting and NCIOP

The IOHRM program held the first Advisory Board meeting of the year in Raley Hall on Friday, January 31st. The program was excited to welcome a new board member! Yvonne Hill is a Senior Workforce Planning Consultant at Lowe’s Home Improvement and will certainly be a great addition to the Board. At the meeting, the board members met with Dr. Huelsman, Program Director, and Tim Bailey, Advisory Board Chairperson, to discuss IOHRM program growth and developing resources. After a productive morning meeting, Phil Graham, Chief Sales Officer of Financial Independence Group, made a presentation on “Non-Sales Selling” to the IOHRM students in the afternoon. Phil shared his experiences and taught the students how to use improvisation, storytelling, and deflection to build relationships and persuade potential clients. It was a great and informative discussion and the IOHRM students and faculty truly appreciate all of our board members sharing their knowledge and experience. The Advisory Board will meet again on April 4th and will have workshops on HR trends, networking, and interviewing skills.

Next week, the IOHRM first- and second-years will make the trip “down the mountain” to NCIOP’s spring meeting at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC. At the morning session, Roger Mayer will be speaking about trust and leadership, and in the afternoon, a panel will discuss careers in IO. The conference is sure to be an informative and enjoyable experience!
