Advisory Board Meeting

On Friday, October 11th, the IOHRM program hosted its Fall 2013 Advisory Board Meeting in which seven board members, including the Advisory Board Chairperson Tim Bailey, met to discuss the current IOHRM curriculum with Program Director Dr. Tim Huelsman. Board members introduced themselves to students and IOHRM faculty while providing insight regarding what had brought them to this point in their careers. Many members shared how it was a series of unique experiences that shaped their career path rather than a set plan, showing that it may be the unplanned experiences that result in the most growth.

Following introductions, three second-year students presented their summer internship experiences. Ian Head shared his involvement with the GEO Group, Allison Byrd described her work with the City of Burlington, and Bethany Malpass explained several projects she completed for United Therapeutics Corporation in Durham, NC. Students, faculty, and board members also heard from Board Member Chanel Leitch, who provided many career insights from her experience as SVP of Leadership Development for Bank of America. Chanel spoke about the importance of knowing one's customers, managing one's brand, and utilizing network connections to uncover the hidden job market. The event concluded with a panel discussion and a social hour, providing graduate students the unique opportunity to exchange information and network with Advisory Board Members. The next board meeting will be early in the spring semester.
