Second Year Students, Kate Lesniak and Casher Belinda, Present at Southern Management Association

This past week, IOHRM students Casher Belinda and Kate Lesniak had the opportunity to present their research regarding Corporate Social Responsibility in a symposium at the Southern Management Association’s (SMA) annual conference in Charlotte, NC. Since starting the program, Casher Belinda has led the Perceptions of Organizations team, within the HR Science Research Team. The group is made up of fellow IOHRM students Hannah Booth, Nkem Obi-Melekwe, and Kate Lesniak, and undergraduates Mat Clodfelter and Nile LaTowsky.  The research team focuses on where job seekers create their perceptions of an organization via online mediums.

The theme of the symposium was, “Social Media as a Technology for Connecting People to Each Other and Knowledge,” and the session included five presentations from a panel of researchers from Appalachian State, UNC Charlotte, and Indiana University Purdue. Casher and Kate showcased their research concerning how job seekers build their perceptions of an organization through highlighting Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on corporate websites and social media. Their presentation entitled, “Online Displays of Corporate Social Responsibility: The Impact of Individual & Website Design Factors on Recruitment Outcomes,” illustrated the necessity for organizations to effectively showcase their CSR initiatives on social media platforms as well as their corporate websites. The group then met up with program alumni, Dea Kamberaj and Heather Holden, for an IOHRM reunion in Charlotte.
