Second Year Student, Kane Thibodeaux, Leads SPSS Workshop

On September 28th, 2nd year IOHRM student Kane Thibodeaux ran an SPSS workshop alongside Dr. Shawn Bergman for Appalachian State University faculty and students. This presentation, titled Advanced SPSS Data Preparation Techniques, was hosted by the Office of Research Consultation, which provides input in the design and completion of research to faculty across the university that are conducting research projects. This workshop included some helpful data management tips for working in SPSS, such as how to set up data within the statistical package, importing and labelling data, recoding variables, and how to merge datasets together along different variables and cases.

Overall, this workshop was a great success. Many individuals in attendance were not aware of some of these functionalities, particularly SPSS syntax, and were very excited about the possibility of improving the speed and accuracy of their data management. Staff and faculty were interested in using this software and skillset for their research, while students in attendance have found it useful in their statistics classes.  The IOHRM program is excited and proud that Kane had the opportunity to represent the program at this workshop. Good job, Kane!
