The IOHRM Program to Host Safety Summit on Injury Prevention

The IOHRM program is proud to announce its first ever Appalachian State University Summit on Behavioral Safety. The itinerary and program details are currently being developed by Dr. Timothy Ludwig and first-year IOHRM student, Jessica New. The conference will discuss behavioral safety techniques for reducing injuries including motivating safe behaviors in employees, using safety checklists, and increasing safety through workplace engagement. Other topics will include punishment and the blame game, how to use measurement and analytics to help reduce injury, behavior-based safety basics, and strategic safety thinking. The event will be held on Appalachian State's campus on June 12, 2015 and will feature world-renowned safety experts and speakers.

The conference schedule currently includes guest speakers such as Dr. Scott Geller (Virginia Tech University), Dr. Dwight Harshbarger (West Virginia University), and Dr. Oliver Wirth (National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) and IOHRM program's own faculty, Dr. Timothy Ludwig and Dr. Shawn Bergman. The goal of the safety conference is to offer large and small regional industries an opportunity of the highest stature and quality, which is normally reserved for only nationwide conferences. Appalachian State University hopes to use the safety conference as a foothold towards developing a community of safety professionals in the Piedmont area. Proceeds from the conference will be used, in part, to support student assistantships, professional development, and research. Look for additional announcements about the Summit in the coming months.

The IOHRM program is proud of its faculty and students, and their ability to host such an informative and beneficial event for safety professionals!
