Students Attend NCIOP at TIAA

Many of the first- and second-year IOHRM students recently attended their first conference of the semester – the North Carolina Industrial & Organizational Psychologists (NCIOP) conference, which took place at, and was sponsored by, TIAA in Charlotte, NC.  Not only did the conference achieve record-breaking attendance, but it was also in part hosted by IOHRM alumna Jennifer Cline, who is now a Senior Director and Human Resources Business Partner for TIAA Global Asset Management.  Excitingly, Jennifer also just assumed her new role as chair of NCIOP.

The theme of this year’s NCIOP conference was innovation, with panel speakers including Mark Saine, Senior Director of Client Leadership Development for TIAA; Keith Caver, Vice President of Assessment and Development of APT Metrics; Terry Hasty, Vice President of MindSpring Consulting.  Spurring the most discussion, however, was keynote speaker Dr. Eden King, from George Mason University.  Dr. King spoke about understanding and improving the experiences of LGBTQ workers, not only clarifying common misconceptions and delving into core empirical findings, but also highlight several actions employers and the United State’s labor force at large may take to establish more inclusive work environments.

Overall, the 2016 NCIOP conference was a great success, and left many students and professionals eager to attend the conference next year.
