Students and Faculty Present at RCIO Conference

Ten Appalachian State IOHRM graduate students and twelve undergraduate psychology students attended The River Cities Industrial Organizational Psychology Conference at the University of Tennessee - Chattanooga on October 24th and 25th.

Two IOHRM graduate students, first-year Dea Kamberaj and second-year Matt Cartabuke, presented at the conference's poster session in the morning. Matt elaborated on the findings from his thesis examining social justice and Dea discussed research examining potential adverse impact of using online sources for organizational recruiting.

After the poster session, second-year graduate student Sarah Guilfoyle, alongside Dr. Shawn Bergman, delivered a presentation entitled "Mo' Data, Mo' Problems? The potential of big data and analytics in employment decisions," which discussed the potential upside and pitfalls of HR Analytics. In the afternoon session, Dr. Jacqui Bergman's presentation "Narcissism: Is there a bright side to this dark trait?" discussed how the notion having a narcissistic leader might, on the surface, seem like a good idea, but the long-term consequences of having someone high in narcissism in a leadership position will likely lead to negative outcomes.

The RCIO conference gave IOHRM students and faculty a chance to network with professionals, professors, and students from other institutions and to learn about the current state of the I/O field. We look forward to having many Appalachian State students attend and present at the 2015 conference.
