New IOHRM Program Development Teams

This semester our first-year students have been busy putting together exciting activities and events for our program. There are three main teams in the works: a fundraising team, conference team, and orientation team.

The fundraising team consists of first-year students Evea Kaldas, Morgan Jewells, and Jessica New. Their responsibilities include updating donation information on the IOHRM website to accurately reflect donations, while ensuring the payment process runs smoothly, and are creating a fundraising campaign that will be rolled out in the Fall. Funds will be put into the IOHRM Student Support Fund and will be used to support student travel to conferences, the IOHRM graduation luncheon, student orientation, and assistantships.

The conference team is responsible for planning our Second Alumni Professional Development Conference, which will take place on Friday, October 2nd. This conference will allow alumni to reconnect and obtain human resource continuing education credits. Joey Hudson is working with Dr. Brian Whitaker to get continuing education credits in order, Jessica New is working with the Conferences and Camp Services for logistics and planning, Morgan Jewells is the point of contact for alumni recruitment and outreach, and both James Westwood and Jordan Belcher are organizing the workshop schedules and conference panel discussions. More details on this event will be posted as details develop.

Last, but certainly not least, Emily Mazza, Dea Kamberaj, Jon Powers, Alex Johnson, and Ryan Gillespie are on our orientation team. This team is responsible for creating the incoming student orientation for our incoming IOHRM Class of 2017! For the first day, a meet and greet will be arranged followed by an outdoors activity. The second day will entail group panel discussions with the second-year class discussing professional development, classroom expectations, and out-of-the-classroom activities. The day will conclude with presentations on internships, a panel discussion with faculty, and a happy hour at Cafe Portofino’s.

All three teams are working hard to improve our IOHRM program, and we are extremely proud to have all of our students involved with the program’s continued development!
