Dea Kamberaj Attends 13th Annual Southern Management Association Conference

Second year IOHRM student, Dea Kamberaj, attended the 13th annual meeting of the Southern Management Association in St. Pete Beach, Florida. This conference brings together individuals who hold mutual interest in the creation and dissemination of knowledge about the art and science of management. It’s a great way for academics, and management practitioners to meet in a relaxed, yet stimulating environment.

Dea collaborated with Drs. Shawn Bergman, and Jacqui Bergman to create a symposium titled “The Impact of Social Media on Human Resources Activities”. Social Media sites are becoming increasingly more common among organizations and human resource professionals as a way to identify, attract, and recruit potential employees. There are many pros and cons associated with this new trend, especially in relation to the recruitment of diverse applicant pools.

Dea’s symposium shed light on these topics, raised awareness on social media perceptions, and potential impacts, and communicated the need for future research on social media recruitment practices. Her presentation made Appalachian State University and the IOHRM program proud, demonstrating our dedication to academics and professional development!
